Summer School Evaluation

International Summer School for Psychotherapy and Counseling Research
Participants Feedback

In your opinion, which were the strengths of this event?
Interesting and good presentations and lecturers; Wide arrangement of themes
The warmth of the participants. The breadth of international representation
The opportunity to discuss projects, ideas with experts in the field within a special session; Different modalities
Nice location; The city of Lisboa itself - it’s wonderful!
The guests, the relevance of communications and scientific requirement
The inclusion of both: quantitative and qualitative research and mixed methods & the possibility to discuss and meet authors of important books
The flexibility to adapt the programme
The openness for different opinions
The providing of a wonderful lunch and break food on Saturday
It succeeded in bringing together people with diverse interests and positions: young and older, qualitative and quantitative, Clinical and research
Different modalities of psychological therapies and all did, mostly, seem to be listening to each other with interest and constructively
The presence of quality speakers. The workshop model. Punctuality. Good adaptation to unpredictability
Like-minded colleagues, range of presentations, excellent main speakers. I liked the workshop where a research proposal was presented and discussed.
The possibility to meet and discuss with wonderful people, interesting contributions, good organization.

And the weaknesses?
Many presentations so the energy for discussion got lost; Sometimes not enough time to discuss and deepen the topic; some presentation were too long and detailed and therefore difficult to understand; Too high a ratio of talking time to question/discussion time (but not that bad).
Basic questions of what do we do and how can we measure that;
Although uncontrolled, non-attendance of some guests; The French Air strike which stopped several people from arriving
The possibility to choose only one workshop out of 4 possibilities; better 2 choices - one for the morning, one for the afternoon;
That some small lectures were in real bad English and without power point - power point should be an obligation;
Lack of time for discussion / questions;. Too many of the shorter presentations were not really about the topic, i.e. pluralism in methodology.
May be too many lectures and therefore too little time to work in smaller groups.

What topics should be added or discussed at future conferences / workshops?
1. Evaluation of children and adolescent groups; What are we doing with Psychodrama and how can we evaluate that; What do we need to research processes and capacities; Do we need to create other questionnaires to evaluate positive outcome: Strength biding, Resilience, capacity building
2. Service Quality Improvement
3. Research from diverse schools of psychotherapy
4. Some specific workshops on doing research, because lots of participants also seem to be practitioners in counselling and psychotherapy
5. Other therapeutic models and presentation of guides for action.
6. I thought the topics were fine.
7. Ethnographic research
8. Researching the process of counselling and therapy?
9. May be more concentration on fewer topics to allow deeper discussions

What would you suggest for future editions of ISSPCR (e.g. organization, discussed topics, facilities, location...)?
1. More time for discussions and exchange
2. More time for the research proposals to discuss with experts
3. Interactive presentation of research; discussion about starting a research project on certain issues; discussion on specific challenges in doing research in counselling and pt (how to get good data; ethics etc.) data
4. Specific interventions for health psychology; Holding the event in Porto or Braga
5. Should be in Lisbon to give it a geographical identity. It needs some sort of identity as it's a very inclusive group.
6. Ethnographic research
7. More time for workshops / discussion alongside presentations. Perhaps chances to learn using a particular method?

How would you rate the entire event?
